Fernando Gaitán Salom (Born November 9, 1960 in Bogotá) is a Colombian TV series and telenovelas screenwriter as well as a producer.
Fernando Gaitán is known for weaving different histories into diverse social contexts. He gained fame in Latin America after writing the telenovela Café con aroma de mujer and world notoriety for his telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea which has been adapted in different countries. Yo soy Betty, la fea won the TP de Oro for its nominated category, Mejor Telenovela (Best Soap Opera) in 2002.[2] The TP de Oro awards are considered to be the most prestigious Spanish awards for television.

In other parts of the world, his sequels are being shown in Germany, India, Russia, Mexico, Spain and Holland. He has received multiple awards and nominations in Colombia and internationally; India Catalina Award (1993, 1994, 2000, 2001), Simón Bolívar Award (1994), El Tiempo Award (1999, 2000), Radio Caracas Televisión Award (2000), Asociación Cronistas del Espectáculo in the United States (1995), GES Awards and INTE Aawards in Miami, FL (2002).

Yo soy Betty, la fea aired on Telemundo in the United States. Its popularity led to the creation of several similar programs in other countries, as well as its rebroadcast in other languages around the world. Besides writing, Gaitán has as a hobby being a DJ.
