Amaury Gutierrez was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on September 9, 1963. After graduating from the Escuela Nacional de Artes de Cuba, he was discovered in the 1989 International Jazz Festival in Habana by the already established Cuban trumpet player, Arturo Sandoval, who introduced him to the group Afrocuba. This marked the beginnings of his professional career. •
In 1993 he moved to Mexico, where he was received with open arms by the public and there he remained for 11 years, recording three albums for Universal Music in Mexico. •
His first album “Amaury Gutierrez” (1999), produced by brazilian producer Marcos Mazzola, was nominated for a Latin Grammy, went Gold in Colombia, selling more than 600 thousand copies, and received the breakthrough artist award of the year by Premio Onda in Spain in 2000. •
His songs are interpreted by various artists all over the globe, such as Luis Fonsi (Puerto Rico), Cheo Feliciano (Puerto Rico), Mijares (México), Paloma San Basilio (España), Malu (España), Gilberto Santa Rosa (Puerto Rico), Trio Pandora (México), Alicia Villareal (México), Frankie Negron (Puerto Rico), Banda Machos (México), Grupo Límite (México), Willy Chirino (Cuba), Francisco Céspedes (Cuba) among many more. •
He moved to the US in 2003, and in 2006 launched his fourth album. A Cuban born, Naturalized Mexican, and US resident of 13 years, Amaury Gutierrez now creates a collage of his life and presents it to us in his next album, which is to be titled “Pedazos De Mi” (Pieces of Me). |
